FIFA 14 could be headed to PS4, Xbox 720 as well

Earlier today EA lifted the curtain on FIFA 14. As part of this unveiling they announced it would be available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. However, hidden at the bottom of the official press release was some information that might suggest FIFA 14 will also be a next-gen title.
"Additional platforms will be revealed in the months ahead," the press release reads. In all likelihood, this refers to already-announced platforms like the Vita, Wii U, and 3DS; however, given that EA has not ruled it out, it could also suggest a possible release on the PlayStation 4 and currently unannounced next-Xbox.
FIFA 14 doesn't yet have a release date, but if it follows the release cycle of its predecessors we're looking at a late September launch. This would put it slightly ahead of the expected PS4 release, which means it could very well be a launch title on the new PlayStation and next Xbox as well.

| EA Announces FIFA 14, Coming To Current-Gen Consoles

To no one's surprise, Electronic Arts has announced that a new entry in the FIFA franchise will be hitting retailers later this year.
FIFA 14 will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, which makes sense, considering the massive install base of all three platforms. Interestingly enough however, EA did not mention anything about next-gen versions of the game. Perhaps the company is waiting for the big Xbox 720 reveal to showcase some exclusive content in the form of Kinect 2.0 integration? One can only hope (not).

A new report suggests that after all the ranting and raving about an always online Xbox, Microsoft "never" considered doing such a thing with its next-gen gaming machine.
An alleged source posted a whole bunch of Xbox 720 info anonymously on Pastebin (via NeoGAF), saying flat out that "You are not required to be connected to the internet in order to play Durango games and MS were NEVER considering doing such a thing. Now please, just read that last sentence over and over again until it sinks in. Done? Good."

| Bethesda: Used games 'absolutely' a concern

Marketing VP at Elder Scrolls, Fallout studio says company has tried to mitigate second-hand market with DLC, other initiatives.
Used games are "absolutely" a concern for Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda. Speaking with , marketing vice president Pete Hines said his company has attempted to lessen the impact of second-hand sales by supporting games with downloadable content that encourages users to hold on to their discs, among other things.
"Absolutely it's a concern," Hines said. "We have tried to mitigate it by creating games that offer replayability, by supporting them with DLC that's worth hanging onto the game for, or offering tools that let them take things further."
Hines conceded that Bethesda does not have all the answers when it comes to the multifaceted issue of the used game market. He said an solution that works for everyone--retailers, publishers, and developers--may be hard to come by.
"There's no doubt that being a videogamer is expensive. Games are not cheap to buy because they're expensive to make, and people are looking for ways to keep it affordable," Hines said. "I'm not sure anyone has figured out a solution that works for everyone, and there simply may not be one until someone figures out how to include developers and publishers in the loop on used games sales instead of keeping it all for themselves."
Most recently, debate and discussion has surrounding the second-hand market has related to the possibility of the PlayStation 4 and still-unannounced Xbox 720 blocking used games. GameStop management said last month that it has a ".

The reveal for the next Xbox is vastly approaching and with that comes much uncertainty. The hardware will no doubt be very similar to PS4's offering, so what can the next Xbox bring to the table? While one answer is very simple, the solution to it would be the most complex yet and can possibly change console gaming as we know it today.

| Price cut won't help Wii U, says Pachter
Added: 15.04.2013 19:27 | 15 views | 0 comments
Analyst Michael Pachter says price drop won't be enough to spur sales, predicts Nintendo's home console sold 55,000 in March.
A price cut will not help accelerate Wii U sales, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. In a note to investors today ahead of the NPD Group's March sales report Thursday (via .
This downturn will continue, Pachter said, even if Nintendo decides to cut the Wii U price.
"The only key hardware device to underperform our expectations was the Wii U numbers and its fortunes appear unlikely to improve for several months, even if Nintendo decides to drop price, as there are an insufficient number of core titles that are generating interest in the console," Pachter said.
The Wii U starts at $300 for an 8GB version, jumping to $350 for the 32GB Deluxe model that includes a copy of .
Like Pachter, GameStop chief financial officer Rob Lloyd said in February that the platform .
Significant first-party titles for the Wii U are on the way, including a .
Pachter said core gamers are "far more likely" to turn their attention to the PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox, which is believed to be and on sale alongside the PS4 this holiday. Moreover, the long-term appeal of the Wii U will be "severely limited" by the perception that the PS4 and next Xbox will be more capable devices, he argued.
On top of this, if Sony and Microsoft decide to sell their next-generation platforms on a price-competitive level with the Wii U, this could spell even further trouble for Nintendo, Pachter said.
"Should the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft be price competitive, we think that Wii U sales may continue to stagnate," he said, noting that Microsoft may offer a subsidized Xbox 720 that could be introduced at a lower price than any other console in history.
Overall, Pachter said he expects March industry sales for the United States to be up 1 percent thanks to the release of a handful of high-profile games like .

| Ubisoft: gamers are ready for always-online

Yannis Mallat says consoles with network requirement need to provide "clear benefits" if gamers are to adopt them.
Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat has weighed in on the possibility of an always-online requirement for next-generation platforms. Speaking ), Mallat said he believes most gamers are already prepared for such a mandate.
"Well, that's a question you should put to Microsoft and Sony! I would say that a lot of people are already always online through other devices," Mallat said. "I would suspect that the audience is ready."
The executive added that if an always-online console hopes to see mass adoption, it must "provide clear benefits" for such a requirement, like extra content or featured services.
Microsoft's Xbox 720 is rumored to . If a network signal drops for three minutes, any running applications or games will cease to work, according to a past report.
Earlier this month, Microsoft creative director Adam Orth made headlines after saying, "Sorry, I don't get the drama around having an 'always on' console. Every device now is 'always on'. That's the world we live in." He then used the hashtag "#dealwithit." He is .
Microsoft has not commented at all on plans for a future platform, though multiple reports have indicated the company will announce the next Xbox on .
The PlayStation 4 does not require an Internet connection. No console in history ever has.
